Christa Buttera: Milestone 10

Introduction

This week marked the tenth sprint in our term-long group project. This sprint ran from Wednesday, March 27th until Tuesday, April 2nd, and consisted of getting everything ready for our final game due the 10th.

My main focus for this sprint was supposed to be to work on creating the animations that would appear both on the mobile side of the game and in the VR environment. I was able to get all of the animations done fairly quickly, and even spend a few minutes making some adjustments to them that the team wanted. Because I was able to get through those animations pretty quickly, I was able to fix some bugs on the mobile side of our game that our team has been dealing with for the last couple of months. At this point there's still a lot to be done, but once the craziness of this week is over on Thursday I want to be able to put all of my focus into getting the rest of these bugs fixed.

Challenges and Successes

During this sprint, the biggest challenge that I faced was trying to fix bugs in a set of code that I didn't write myself. I've always felt the same way about reading someone else's code and reading someone else's math notes: it's like reading a different language that someone might have spoken to you about 10 years ago, one time, but never again after that. It's so ridiculously hard to try to read someone else's code, try to figure out where they were going with it, and then try to fix the problems when you don't know exactly where they're originating from. After a few times trying to go through each file and find the path where each of them connect, and with some help from Matt to do so, I was able to get a better understanding of where some of our problems were originating from and how to fix them. Overall, I fixed three bugs that we were experiencing, so I feel pretty good about that, because bug fixing isn't really in the domain of things I'm good at or overly comfortable with.

Tasks Completed, Hours Spent

Throughout this sprint, I worked on completing the animations for the mobile side of our game and for the VR environment. I also worked on bug fixes on the mobile side of our game to help get us closer to our finishing point.

Up to this point, I have spent approximately 10 hours working on completing the tasks above. I wish I could have spent more time doing it, because I know for sure that there's at least one more bug that I think I know how to approach fairly easily, but all of the deadline extensions that have happened over the course of this entire semester in all of our classes are finally catching up and these last two weeks are chock-full of deadlines.

Conclusion

Overall, I feel that this sprint hasn't been as productive as I wanted it to, but what else is new? Moving forward, I will be spending as much time on bug fixes as is humanly possible while also trying to get the other 9 assignments done in the next 2 weeks. Wish me luck.
