Hannah Perks: Milestone 1

hannahperks

Introduction

To begin, we formed our group and immediately started brainstorming and building upon each others ideas, listening to one another's concerns, and making progress from the get go. The idea behind the VR game is immersing yourself into a dojo, where you practice Kendo sword techniques whilst learning Japanese language skills and well as coordination and memory testing. This game is performed between two platforms, both VR headset and on a phone through an application. The interactions between the platforms will mimic Simon Says in the style of game.

Challenges

I feel that individually as well as a team we have not faced any big challenges thus far. Our meetings have been very beneficial for everyone as it is initializing and getting started with everything that is the challenging part.

Successes

I felt that there have been quite a few positives in the past week and a half. We have successfully split up roles and specified each individuals strengthens, making sure all aspects are covered. We have been working very well as a team ensuring that we equip ourselves with all the necessary tools and ways of communication before development ramps up.

Time Spent

I have spent roughly 2-3 hours researching Kendo. This included finding out the history behind it, as well as exploring the purpose of it. I was able to find some very interesting facts about the material arts which directly related to our game as well as helped in supporting our ideas. After completing this research, I spent approximately 1-2 hours collecting all the information and resources and putting them into a document for my team members and I to access whenever need be.

In regards to design elements, I roughly spent 4-5 hours researching and designing mood-boards. I felt that creating 4 mood-boards with various colour schemes, textures, and styles would be beneficial. As it would give our team the chance to narrow our focuses in on what we collectively liked for our overall branding package/design elements. Whilst I was creating them, I continued to do some research into Kendo and more broadly Japanese styles and the general culture (as I felt I would be able to design with a better understanding).

Moving Forward

As work progresses, we will be continuing to explore concepts within our design as well as game play, before finalizing ideas and starting on development. As we have established roles within our team, and found effective and efficient ways of communicating; we will all be working on our individual tasks for the weeks to come as well as collaboratively sharing, meeting and discussing our project with one another. At this stage we do not have anything we need to better within our group, more so just continuing on with the enthusiasm we all have for this game.
